Taliban launched an attack on Batikot district headquarters on Tuesday evening in the eastern province of Nangarhar and the gun battle was going on for few hours.
The clash erupted at about 6 pm when Taliban attacked the district building from three different directions, the administrative head of the town, Mirza Mohammad Nasrat told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Some rockets and mortar shells landed on nearby houses, he said but did not reveal details about civilian casualties.
However, a witness Afsar Khan, said three civilians were seriously injured when a shell landed on their house.
A Taliban local commander Khalid said 28 Taliban fighters were involved in the attack.
According to a security officer, who spoke on anonymity, Afghan National Army soldiers arrived at the scene and the situation was under control.
